JD Valerio: Music

EGYPT

(JD Valerio)
November 4, 2009
JD went to Egypt in 2009. After seeing pyramids, tombs, cities, and the culture of Egypt, JD wrote this tune to capture the trip and thoughts.
in a sea of sand and dust
in a world of broken trust
mountains built by hand
ancient egos stand
hear the prayers flooding through the city
singing through the night a voice of one
cairo can be so pretty
an urban giant second to none

near the nile's shore
a fire roared
and now today not far away
bombs fall ever more

will the red sea ever part again
can the sun rise at sinai
learn from the ancient tombs of men
will the nations ever learn not to fight
digging up a mummy won't change a thing
can't learn from the fallen kings
temples so pretty dressing up the past
some things were just built to last

near the nile's shore
a fire roared
and now today not far away
bombs fall ever more
